Information Technology

Between 2000 and 2004, the Foundation managed and co-financed with the Royal Government of Bhutan, the Swiss Development Cooperation Agency, and Microsoft Corporation a joint project to develop technical tools for the integration of support for the national language of Bhutan (Dzongkha) in Microsoft Windows, based on the Unicode standard. The technical developments made during this project played a major role in the integration of support for Tibetan script computing now implemented in Microsoft's Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.

Since the completion of this joint initiative, support for Tibetan script computing has been implemented in Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Linux operating systems.
